Well it's funny 'cause the guy who owns the ship mentions a name for this creature but he says it so fast that you can hardly hear him. You know it's been driving me crazy for years....LOL :)

I always thought of it as a huge squid/octopus hybrid thing...but why it needs mouths on its tenticles I don't know. All I know is thing gave me the craziest dream wheN I first saw the movie.

Good point about the mouths on its tenticles. They are probably there for convenience...you know, it makes eating people easier....lol espically with it's huge body in the center of the ship.
